Central Michigan University. Appleblossom Club.

Once part of Central Michigan University, the "Club" was named for the state flower. Members included students and representatives from each dept. and class. High scholastic achievement was a requirement for student members. The Club was affiliated with the American Country Life Association. Members traveled to bring cultural events and experiences, such as choruses, plays, and operettas to rural schools. CMU furnished the transportation via a bus with the logo "Better schools for country children" on it. The Club's welfare department included clothing and shoe repair divisions, which repaired shoes and clothing and made new clothes for needy children in Isabella County (Mich.). Student members also prepared a monthly paper of Club news and opinions for distribution throughout the U.S. At one time the Club owned a summer activities camp on the Tittabawassee River. The Club dissolved in 1954. Related publications may be found in the Clarke Historical Library under the title The Appleblossom.
