Thomson, William Sydnor, 1843-1913.
William Sydnor Thomson, Confederate soldier, lawyer, and educator, was born 12 April 1843, in Summit Point, Jefferson County, Virginia (now West Virginia), and died 22 December 1913, in Atlanta, Georgia. Thomson taught in Calhoun County in East Tennessee (1860), served with the 12th Virginia Cavalry during the Civil War, moved to Marietta, Georgia, after the war, and was admitted to the Georgia bar in 1866. He moved to Atlanta, Georgia (1871), to practice law and was an organizer of the Atlanta Bar Association, served on the Atlanta Board of Education (1888-1897), was Fulton County Attorney, and was elected to the city council (1897). He was in law partnerships in Atlanta with George N. Lester and with Milton A. Candler.
