Williams, J. D. (John Daniel)
John Daniel Williams was born in Salt Lake City, Utah, on 13 January 1926. He graduated from Stanford in 1946 and received a doctorate from Harvard in 1952. J. D. Williams came to the University of Utah as an instructor that same year and became head of the Hinckley Institute of Politics in 1965. He retired from teaching in 1992. J. D. Williams ran for the United States Senate in 1968 and the Utah State House of Representatives in 1976; in each occasion he lost. He died on 3 September 2007.
