Hind, Henry Youle, 1823-1908
Henry Youle Hind was a Canadian, explorer and geologist, born in England. He participated in the Red River exploring expedition and expeditions in Saskatchewan and Labrador. He was also director of the geological survey of New Brunswick. He also held positions at Trinity College of Toronto and King's College of Windsor (Nova Scotia) as a professor of chemistry, natural history, and geology.
William George Richardson Hind, the younger brother of Henry Hind, moved from England to Toronto to be with his brother. He was trained as a professional artist and taught at the Normal School in Toronto. He traveled with Henry on some of his expeditions as the artist. His sketches accompanied Henry's reports. In 1862 William joined a group called the Overlanders who traveled across the prairies of Canada from Toronto to British Columbia in search of gold.
