Immanuel Lutheran Church (Vancouver, Wash.)

The roots of Immanuel Lutheran go back to 1943, when during World War II the National Lutheran Council began a ministry in the rapidly growing housing developments in Vancouver. A parish worker, Margaret Wickstrom, assisted five Lutheran families in arranging a Sunday School, and first worship services were held at Mill Plain Community Center on October 10, 1943. Immanuel was officially organized on April 22, 1951. Plans were laid for a new building, with construction beginning in June, 1956 and dedication following on Thanksgiving Day of that year.
