Kohn, Hedwig
Physicist; born in Breslau, Germany. Received Ph.D., University of Breslau, 1913; became Lecturer in Physics, 1930. Worked with the nature of light emission from metal vapors in flames. Emigrated to the U.S. in the late 1930s; made instructor in physics at Women's College of the University of North Carolina in Greensboro, 1940. Appointed lecturer at Wellesley College in physics, 1942; associate professor, 1945; full professor, 1948. After retiring joined the staff of the physics department at Duke University.
