Karth, Joseph E. (Joseph Edward), 1922-2005
Joseph E. Karth, a U.S. representative (Democratic-Farmer-Labor) from the Minnesota fourth district, was born in 1922 in New Brighton, Minnesota. He was educated in Ramsey County elementary schools and North St. Paul High School, and studied engineering at the University of Nebraska. Karth served in the Minnesota House of Representatives from 1950 until 1958, when he was first elected to Congress. In Congress, Karth's committee assignments included Merchant Marine and Fisheries and, Ways and Means Committees. He chaired the Subcommittee on Space Science and Applications of the committee on Science and Astronautics. He announced his retirement before the 1976 elections.
