Crawford, Janet
Janet Crawford was born in Britain in 1942, the grand-daughter of Louis Charles Bernacchi. She moved to South Africa as a child and was educated at Cape Town University. She worked for a publishing company before writing That first Antarctic Winter, an account of the British Antarctic Expedition, 1898-1900 (leader Carsten Egeberg Borchgrevink), based on the diaries of her grandfather who served as meteorologist and magnetometry observer on the expedition. She now lives in Britain.
