Goudy Society, Inc.

The Goudy Society was formed on March 8, 1965, the centennial of the birth of printer, typographer, and typefounder Frederic W. Goudy. Its purpose was to promote understanding, craftsmanship and use of type and the designing of new typefaces, to preserve the history and tradition of printing, and to further interest in private presses. Founding members were A. Burton Carnes, Joseph R. Dunlap, Eugene M. Ettenberg, Horace Hart, Robert L. Leslie, Elizabeth K. Lieberman, J. Ben Lieberman, Edgar J. Malecki, and Franklin E. Powers. Society members were primarily professional and amateur printers, historians, book sellers, and librarians. Horace Hart was president of the society from its founding through his death in 1991.
