Royal Botanic Society of London, 1838-1931.
The Royal Botanic Society of London was created in 1839. Its gardens in Regent's Park included a large conservatory, a library and a museum. It was closed when the land lease expired in 1931. James de Carle Sowerby, one of the founders, was elected Secretary, and was succeeded in that post by his descendants.
