Kenner, Valentin, 1911-1967.
Resident of Middlesex County, New Jersey, who resided near Stelton for most of his life; was born in 1911, the son of Osip Kenner, a Russian immigrant who was a founding member and trustee of the Ferrer Colony and Modern School near Stelton; served in the antifacist Abraham Lincoln Brigade--as the U.S. volunteers were known in the United States--during the Spanish Civil War (including as a company clerk and as a political commissar), 1937-1938, and fought in various battles (e.g., Belchite, Fuentes del Ebro); worked as a welder during World War II and later joined Local 824 of the Painters, Paperhangers and Decorators Union; served as a founding member and trustee of the North Stelton Volunteer Fire Company; died in 1967 as the result of a construction accident.
