Polish-American Center (San Antonio, Tex.)

The Polish-American Center in San Antonio, Texas, had its beginnings in the foundation of the Polonia Woodrow Wilson Society, the San Antonio chapter (Lodge 2540) of the Polish National Alliance. The Polonia Woodrow Wilson Society took its name from Polonia, a term for the Polish diaspora, and from the American president who advocated the unification of then-divided Poland after World War I. The Society's members were Polish Americans who came together to form a community based on shared ancestry. Many of their activities centered on maintaining Polish cultural traditions, such as folk dancing, music and traditional foods. The Society also provided assistance to newly arrived immigrants from Poland, helping them adjust to American life.
