Lamarsh, John R.
John R. Lamarsh, a nuclear physicist and educator, was born in Hartford, Connecticut on March 12th, 1928. He earned a B.S. in General Science (1948) and a Ph.D. in Physics (1952) from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. His academic appointments included Assistant Professor of Physics at the University of Kentucky (1953-1954); Assistant Professor of Physics at New York University (1956-1957); Assistant Professor of Engineering Physics at Cornell (1957-1962); Associate Professor of Nuclear Engineering (1962-1966); Professor of Nuclear Engineering (1966-1973), and Director of Nuclear Engineering Program at New York University (1962-1973); Professor and head of Department of Nuclear Engineering at the Polytechnic Institute of New York (1973-1981); and Adjunct Professor of Environmental Medicine at the New York University Medical Center (1973-1981). Throughout his career as an educator Dr. Lamarsh maintained several consulting and adminstrative positions with federal, state and private agencies and societies. Among these positions was his appointment as administrative judge of the Federal Nuclear Regulatory Commission, just prior to his untimely death in 1981.
