Plumley, Charles Albert, 1875-1964

Charles Plumley (1875-1964) was born in Northfield on 14 April 1875. He was educated at Northfield High School and entered NU in 1892. He graduated with the NU Class of 1896 with a BA degree. Plumley served as principal of Northfield High School from 1896 to1900. He resigned to study law and was admitted to the Vermont Bar in 1903. Charles Plumley practiced law with his father, Frank Plumley (also represented in the collection), for 20 years. He served the State of Vermont in many different capacities from 1894 to 1919. After serving as president of NU from 1920 to 1934, Charles Plumley was elected Vermont's Representative to Congress and served in that capacity until 1951. He married Emilie Adele Stevens (d.1960) in 1900 and the couple had two sons (both of whom graduated from NU) and a daughter.
