Farnill, Mary J.
Mary and her parents, Isaac and Sophie Farnill, lived in Ann Arbor (Mich.). John S. Farnill enlisted as a Corporal in Company F, 6th Michigan Cavalry at Pittsfield (Mich.) on Sept. 1, 1862 at age 18. He was mustered on Oct. 13, 1862, taken prisoner on July 4, 1863, and died at Annapolis (Md.) of starvation on Dec. 27, 1864. Mary and John also had a brother William H., and possibly a younger sister, Ellen. John's friends, George E. Briggs (1844-1864), John Briggs (1818- ), and John Frank (1843-1863) served in his company. Other friends, William P. Lovejoy (1843-1863) and Edwin Tyler (1837- )served in companies D and B, respectively, of the 20th Michigan Infantry. All the men were from Pittsfield.
