Shovell, Clowdisley, Sir, 1650-1707
Sir Clowdisley Shovell (1650-1707) and Sir George Rooke (1650-1709), were two British admirals who spent their naval careers in Channel and Mediterranean duties. Shovell served with Rooke on occasion, as in the 1696 attack on Calais, the aborted 1702 expedition to Cadiz, and the 1704 capture of Gibraltar.
