Gormly, Walter, 1915-2000.
Walter Ford Gormley, a native of Mount Vernon (Iowa) received his B.S. (1939) from Iowa State College (University) in Mechanical Engineering. During World War II, Gormley was incarcerated for 3 years in a government-sanctioned work camp for being a conscientious objector. After the war, Gormley continued his anti-war activities and also refused to pay his federal income taxes. Gormly was also interested in food and drug issues, and coordinated an anti-fluoride campaign. He was a member of the Society for Social Responsibility in Science and the Humanists of Iowa.
