Eldredge, Horace S. (Horace Sunderlin), 1816-1888
Eldredge was an elder in the Mormon Church, and was sent by Mormon president Brigham Young on several journeys to get supplies for the Mormons and to help the emigrants who were pouring into Salt Lake City. Young's letters were written a few months after Colonel Albert Sydney Johnston occupied Salt Lake City by order of the United States government for the refusal of the Mormons to obey Federal laws.
