Educator, National Secretary of the Y.W.C.A., State Director of the National Youth Administration, civil rights advocate, native of Sumter, S.C.; graduated Converse College, 1903; public high school teacher; organized S.C. War Work campaign, 1916; National Secretary of YWCA; Director of YWCA Education (Providence, Rhode Island); Director of Department of Public Welfare (Hampton, S.C.); Director of State Adult Education program for the federal government; S.C. State Director for the National Youth Administration; returned to Sumter in 1941 where she operated a pecan farm, worked with State and local Councils on Human Relations, and participated in the Southern Regional Council.
Reid was a granddaughter of William Moultrie Reid (1798-1884), Presbyterian minister and teacher at Columbia Theological Seminary; niece of Rev. Benjamin F. Wilson, first president of Converse College, 1890-1902; and great-niece of John Leighton Wilson (1809-1886), early Presbyterian missionary to western Africa.
