Mixter, William Jason, 1880-1958
William Jason Mixter (1880-1958), MD, 1906, Harvard Medical School, was Chief of Neurosurgical Services at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, Mass., and specialized in spinal surgery. Mixter first recognized the importance of herniated intervertebral disks in causing nerve root and spinal cord compression syndromes, leading to the first successful discectomy in collaboration with Joseph Barr of the Massachusetts General Hospital orthopedic surgery service.
