United States. Army. Field Artillery Battalion, 119th

The 119th Field Artillery was organized as such on Sept. 22, 1917, when several units of the Michigan National Guard were merged to form the unit. The First Infantry (a predecessor of the 119th) entered federal service for the Spanish American War on April 26, 1898, and was redesignated the 31st Michigan Volunteers. It reverted back to its former status in May 1899. Several other predecessor units of the 119th were organized. When the 119th was formed, it was assigned to the 32nd Division. The unit was mustered out May 16, 1919. A veterans association was formed in the mid-1930's by members of the 119th. The unit saw action again in World War II.
