Loud, May Hallowell, 1860-1916.
American artist Maria Penrose (May) Hallowell was born in West Medford, Massachusetts on August 22, 1860. She studied at the Museum of Fine Arts School and Cowles Art School in Boston and at the Academie Julian in Paris. She specialized in pastel portraits of children. She married architect Joseph Prince Loud (b.1865). They lived on Pinckney Street in Boston. Joseph Loud was a member of the N.A.A.C.P. and became president of the Boston chapter in 1926. May Loud was a member of the Boston Watercolor Club, the Copley Society, and the Boston Society of Arts and Crafts.
