Lee, Harold Willey, 1907-1978

Harold Willey Lee (1907-), PhD, was a Stanford and Brigham Young University graduate who was the former BYU department chairman of modern and classical languages. He also served as a mission president in France and as a patriarch in Provo.

Harold Willey Lee was born 13 October 1907 in Cardston, Canada. He attended BYU where he received his bachelor's and master's degrees. He received his doctorate from Stanford University. He married Rachael Low in the Alberta Temple 26 July 1937. She passed away in 1974 and later that year he married Vera Tayner. He was a former chairman of the BYU department of modern and classical languages beginning in 1938. He taught French, Spanish, Italian and Latin and served twice as department chairman. He served as president of the LDS French Mission from 1953 to 1957. He later served as patriarch of the Provo East Stake.
