Educator; B.A., U. of Indiana, 1898; Ph.D., U. of Chicago, 1891; joined the Yale faculty in 1923 as an assistant professor of Greek and Latin, became an associate professor in 1926 and a full professor in 1927, retired in 1943; one of the foremost authorities on the ancient Hittite language.
