Robert Louis Stevenson chartered the yacht Casco from Dr. Samuel Merrit for a cruise in the Pacific in June 1888. Stevenson traveled with his wife Fanny Osbourne, his mother and his stepson Lloyd Osborne to Hawaii on board the Casco. The Stevenson party remained in the south seas and the Casco returned to San Francisco in July 1889.
