Broyles-González, Yolanda 1949-
Dr. Yolanda Broyles-Gonzalez, currently a Professor in the Mexican American Studies & Research Center at the University of Arizona, has also worked at the University of California, Santa Barbara in Chicano Studies and German Studies. A native of the Arizona/Sonora desert, she was one of the first women of color to receive a doctorate degree from Stanford University.
As a professor, her research includes popular culture and the performance genres of the U.S. Mexico borderlands. In 1996, Gonzalez legally challenged the unequal payment of minority/women professors within the University of California community. Additionally, she has worked in the realms of public education and journalism.
