Edward John Kempf: psychiatrist and psychologist; pioneer in the development of psychosomatic medicine and originator of the theory that the human personality is the product of biological evolution; from 1911-1912 worked at Indianapolis State Hospital with psychotics; from 1912-1914 served as staff physician at Phipps Psychiatric Clinic at Johns Hopkins Hospital; from 1914-1920 served as clinical psychiatrist at St. Elizabeth's Hospital in Washington, D. C; from 1920-1931 engaged in private practice in New York; from 1931-1972 actively engaged in research and writing; author of a number of books.
