Chambers, Julius L. (Julius LeVonne), 1936-2013
Black civil rights lawyer.
Born in Mt. Gilead, N.C. in 1936. Graduated from North Carolina College in 1958 with a B.A. in history. Later received an M.A. in history from University of Michigan. Studied law at University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, when during his final year served as editor of the North Carolina Law Review, the first black to hold the post. Then received a Master of Law from Columbia University Law School. Established a law practice in Charlotte, N.C. in 1964. Formed first biracial law firm in North Carolina in 1967.
