Perry, Ed, 1942-
Ed Perry represented the Oxford district in the Mississippi House of Representatives from 1968 until his retirement in 1999. During his tenure, he served as chairman of numerous committee, including Appropriations, Constitution, Municipalities, Judiciary "A," and Judiciary En Banc. Members of the House elected Perry "Clerk of the House" in 2000. Born in San Diego, Calif., Perry graduated from University High School in Oxford, Miss. and the University of Mississippi. In 1967, he graduated from the University of Mississippi Law School and entered the legislative campaign that summer. Acclaimed as a powerful orator, Perry recited Judge N.S. "Soggy" Sweat's famous "Whiskey Speech" at the Mississippi State Capitol Centennial Celebration in 2003.
