Wagner, Friedelind, 1918-1991
Friedelind Wagner was the granddaughter of the composer Richard Wagner. She won fame for her opposition to Nazism in spite of her English-born mother, Winifred, being a fanatic admirer of Adolf Hitler. Friedelind fled Germany in 1940, arriving in the United States in 1942. She published her autobiography in 1945. Her brother Wieland was a co-director of the Bayreuth Festival.
