Lohr, Lenox R. (Lenox Riley), 1891-1968

Lenox Riley Lohr (1891-1968) made his reputation in Chicago as General Manager of the highly successful 1933-34 Worlds Fair, "A Century of Progress." At the conclusion of the fair, Lohr became President of NBC, New York. He returned to Chicago in 1940 to head the Museum of Science and Industry. Under his direction, the museum achieved international recognition as a showplace of American science and technology. In his twenty-eight years at the museum, Lohr also organized a number of expositions, including the Chicago Railroad Fair, 1948-1949. As a charter member of the University of Illinois Citizens Committee, he directed the University's fundraising efforts to restore the Jane Addams Hull-House on the Chicago campus.
