Sweetser, Seth, 1807-1878
Seth Sweetser (1807-1878) was born in Newburyport, Mass. He graduated from Harvard College in 1827 and became a minister after three years of study at the Andover Theological Seminary. In 1838 he was installed as minister of the Central Church in Worcester, Mass. Among his accomplishments, Sweetser was President of the Theological Seminary and Phillips Academy at Andover, trustee of Leicester Academy, President of the American Education Society, member of the Board of Commissioners for Foreign Missions and of the Board of Overseers at Harvard University, trustee of Memorial Hospital, and a member of the American Antiquarian Society.
