Whipple, Allen Oldfather, 1881-1963
Surgeon Allen Oldfather Whipple (1881-1963) began teaching surgery at Columbia University in 1910, the same year he began practicing at Presbyterian Hospital in New York. In 1946 he retired as Director of Surgical Services at Presbyterian and left his professorship at Columbia. From 1946 to 1951 he served as Clinical Director of Memorial Hospital. He also organized the editorial board of the Annals of Surgery and served with its advisory board until his death.
