Field, Allen.

Allen Field Smith was born in Chicago in 1895. He enlisted in the Army in 1917 at the end of his junior year at Denison University. After the war, Smith engaged in business in Columbus (Ohio). He moved to Newaygo (Mich.) and eventually turned to writing sports adventure stories for boys under the pen name of Allen Field. When his writing was not a financial success, he edited the local newspaper, and later worked as a postal employee. (Information from the collection.).
