Ettinger, Rose 1877-1909
Rose Ettinger, a singer who performed extensively in Europe in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, was born Alice Ida Ettinger in Oregon, Illinois. She spent most of her childhood in Iowa, however, until she went to Chicago to study voice at the age of fourteen. She changed her name from Alice to Rose and in 1895 travelled to Europe to begin her concert career.
Ettinger spent most of her career in Europe, marrying an English baritone, but had to stop performing in 1907. She died of a cerebral hemmorhage in 1909 and was buried in London.
