Thomas Bothwell Jeter served three months (Sept.-Nov. 1880) as governor of South Carolina following the resignation of Gov. William Dunlap Simpson; Jeter's position as President Pro Tempore of the S.C. Senate positioned him in the line of succession for the governor's chair; native of Union County, S.C.; 1846 graduate of South Carolina College; member of S.C. General Assembly (S.C. House, 1856; and S.C. Senate, 1872-1882).
