Jenkins, John Holland, 1822-1890
John H. Jenkins (1822-1890) was a soldier and writer. His family emigrated from Alabama to Texas in 1828. At age 15 Jenkins joined Jesse Billingsleys' Company and went to Gonzales. He assisted in the resettlement of settlers after the Runaway Scrape and after the war joined Edward Burleson on his Indian raids. Jenkins died in Bastrop, Texas, in 1890.
