Gairdner, Meredith, 1809-1837.

Meredith Gairdner was born in London in 1809. He received a medical degree from Edinburgh University. His personal interests included botany and geology. In 1832, Gairdner accepted a position as a physician for the Hudson's Bay Company. He served at Fort Vancouver (1833-1835), where he also studied the salmon of the Columbia River. He was diagnosed with tuberculosis in 1835 and moved to Hawaii, where he died in 1837.
