Brown, Clarence, 1890-1987
Clarence Brown, though born in Massachusetts, was raised in Knoxville, Tennessee. Brown, a graduate of the University of Tennessee, was a major movie director in Hollywood and generous donor to the university. Among his gifts was money to build and establish the Clarence Brown Theatre.
