Haeckel, Ernst Heinrich Philip August
Ernst Haeckel was a German zoologist. In 1862 he became a professor of comparative anatomy and director of the Zoological Institute of the University of Jena, and after 1865 he was a professor of zoology there. He was a strong supporter of Darwin's views on evolution. His own theories include the "biogenetic law" and the "gastraea" theory.
