Leyden, Maurice

Maurice Leyden was a Rochester, N.Y. dentist, businessman, banker, and politician. He held office as the Monroe County Clerk, and was an active member of the Monroe County Republican Party. He was also the treasurer of the 3rd New York Regiment of Cavalry. Of the 52 diaries, 25 belonged to Maurice Leyden, 22 of them belonged to Sarah Woodruff Pottle, and 4 belonged to Blanche Leyden. One diary is unattributed. A couple of the diaries mentioned the women's suffrage movement. The letters are a mix of personal, business, and political; most were written to Maurice Leyden, a few to Margaret or Blanche Leyden. The remainder of the collection consists mostly of financial documents, followed by 7 framed items.
