Manin, Ludovico, d 1802

Ludovico Manin was the last Doge of the Venetian Republic, and was deposed by the French under Napoleon in 1797; the Republic ceased to exist and was ceded to Austria. The main branch of the Avogadro family died out in 1671 and the fief of Lumezzane came under the direct jurisdiction of Venice. In 1681, however, Francisco and Girolamo Avogadro, descendants of a cadet branch of the family tree, acquired the fief for 32,000 ducats, and it was held by that family until the collapse of the Republic in 1797.
