Price, John B., 1920-1998

John B. Price (1920-1998) graduated from Brown University in 1943. He entered the U.S. Army immediately after graduation and served with the 69th Infantry Division, which joined the Russian army at the Elbe River in May 1945. Price joined Brown University's business staff as an accountant in 1948 and became the University's Controller in 1954. In 1966 he became the Business Manager and Controller, with responsibilities for purchasing and special services, budgeting, and plant, housing, and food operations. When he retired in 1982, he was designated Business Manager Emeritus. He was a director of the Urban Housing Corporation and a member of the Providence Chamber of Commerce public safety committee, a treasurer and director of Fairview, Inc., the real estate subsidiary of Brown University; a board member of the Sophie Little Home, a home for unwed mothers, from 1967 to 1991; and the treasurer of the Class of 1943 from 1963 to 1993. He was a volunteer for the Arthritis Foundation and for Bradley Hospital, a children's psychiatric hospital in Rhode Island. His memberships included the Cranston Junior Chamber of Commerce, the Associations of College and University Business Officers, the University Club, the Rhode Island Historical Society, the Brown Club of Rhode Island, and the Providence Art Club, which awarded him its Club Medallion in 1986.
