Emergency Coalition for Public Interest Placement.

The Emergency Coalition for Public Interest Placement was formed in reaction to new Harvard Law School dean Robert C. Clark 's elimination of public interest counseling staff in August 1989 , a month after assuming office. This decision met with widespread protests from students as well as coverage from mainstream media outlets. The formation of the ECPIP at the beginning of the 1989-1990 academic year served to mobilize student protest, eventually leading to the opening of the Office of Public Interest Advising (now the Bernard Koteen Office of Public Interest Advising ).
