Jarvis Family.
Benjamin, James and Charles Jarvis were merchants in Norwalk, CT who arranged shipments of goods between New England, Europe and the West Indies. Their main cargoes were molasses, wine and indigo. Unfortunately, very little biographical information exists on the Jarvis brothers. Letters and records in the collection indicate that the family possibly came from New York. Mary Jarvis, a widow, resided in Norwalk with her sons who travelled extensively. Her daughters, Sally and Polly, lived elsewhere but visited her in Norwalk. Mary Jarvis, died in late October or early November 1781, but no record exists as to the cause or her place of burial. Benjamin possibly settled permanently in the West Indies, but that is not clear at this time.
