Overton, John Holmes, 1875-1948

John Holmes Overton graduated from Louisiana State University (1895) and from the law department of Tulane University (1897). He was admitted to the bar in 1898, practiced law in Alexandria, La., and was a member of the board of supervisors of Louisiana State University. He was U.S. Representative for the 8th Congressional district of Louisiana (1931-1933) and a U.S. Senator for Louisiana (1933-1948).
