Hodgskin, Thomas, 1787-1869

Thomas Hodgskin served in the British Royal Navy from 1800-1812. He met James Mill and Jeremy Bentham and from 1817-1818 conducted a social study of Hanover, Germany. In 1823 Hodgskin became a Parliamentary reporter for the London Morning Chronicle. In the same year he also founded The Mechanic's Magazine, and later the London Workingmen's Institute. Hodgskin was active in the British labor movement, and was the author of numerous books and articles.
