Medico-Chirurgical Club (Charleston, S.C.)
The Medico-Chirurgical Club was organized May 1, 1911 by a group composed of Drs. Albert Nathans, Daniel L. Maguire, M.S. Moore, Richard M. Pollitzer, J. Sumter Rhame, and William Atmar Smith. The first constitution was adopted May 23, 1911. The purpose of the club was to provide younger members of the medical profession with an organization in which members could share the subjects of practical interest, informal consultations, and the presentation and discussion of papers. Dr. Nathans served as the first secretary; there was no formally elected president/chairman until January 19, 1912 when Dr. William Cyril O'Driscoll was elected president. The Club continued to meet until 1971 died out.
