Graves, J. A. (Jackson Alpheus), 1852-1933
Jackson A. Graves (1852-1933), Los Angeles lawyer and businessman, came to California in 1857. He graduated from St. Mary's College in San Francisco in 1872 and studied law in the firm of Eastman and Neumann. Graves moved to Los Angeles in 1875. In 1888, after membership in various partnerships, Graves joined Henry O'Melveny, and the firm became Graves, O'Melveny and Shankland until its dissolution in 1904. Graves was vice-president of Farmers and Merchants National Bank in 1903 and president from 1920-33.
