Weir, Dorothy, 1890-1947
Dorothy Weir Young (1890-1947) was an American artist and a writer and daughter of Julian Alden Weir.
Dorothy Weir Young was born June 18, 1890, in New York City, the third child of J. Alden and Anna Baker Weir. She studied under her father, the distinguished American impressionist painter, and followed in his footsteps by becoming a professional artist. As her skill improved, she studied at the National Academy of Design and the Art Students League of New York. In 1928, she received the Joan of Arc bronze medal from the National Association of Women Painters and Sculptors at the Brooklyn Museum; in 1929, she was awarded the Crowinshield prize by the Annual Exhibit of Paintings and Sculpture of the Stockinbridge Art Association.
